Christmas with a toddler.

Why is it I can't find any really great toys for my 19-month old who will be 22-months old this xmas?

I've bought him plenty of cars. I bought him all the Yo Gabba Gabba stuffed characters except for Foofa because I couldn't bring myself to buy him a pink character with a flower for a hat or crown or hair, or whatever it's meant to be. (I know, sexist, but at least I'm going to get him the Leo doll (Little Einsteins) one way or another.) He loves music and musical instruments, so he's added some interesting things to his xmas wish list that he gave to his Grandma.

He loves certain shows, but he doesn't get what a DVD is nor would he care at all that he received one come xmas morning. Same with CDs; while he loves music, he wouldn't get what a CD is and is perfectly fine listening to the same three CDs in his very small CD collection.

It seems most of the really neat toys are for 3 years or older. And last year, it seemed most of the good toys were for 2 years or older. So something is amiss here, and it's probably me.

Am I being too picky? Am I trying to stretch my dollar too much?

His big present will be a tricycle, but one we can push until he figures out how to pedal (he may already know for all I know).

All I know is all this thinking and planning and whatnot will amount to a very excited kid on xmas morning. A very excited kid who will immediately want to play with all the paper and boxes and bows while all his new toys sit off to the side.

I can so relate to this. Once they hit three, there's all kinds of good stuff. Two? Not so much. Now you've got me thinking... I'll see if I can come up with any good recommendations....

There is no such thing as stretching your dollar too much!

LOL!! So true about the paper and boxes!
And with the whole age thing - I had the same issues last year.
I just don't even want to think about x-mas shopping already! Though I did buy a bunch of yarn yesterday to start with the crocheted gifts for nieces and nephews (we have way too many!). Now I just have to figure out what to make!

Please don't tell me you got him the Muno character from Yo Gabba Gabba, 'cause I think he's the perverted one. Check out his shape and his bumps--eeeewwwww.

My youngest will be 2 1/2 this Christmas. For her 2nd birthday, a friend gave her the Fisher Price Fun2Learn baby laptop. She spends so much time on that thing, it's crazy. Within a couple of weeks of having it, she knew all of her letters (CAPS and small) and numbers by name. I was shocked. Now she sings the songs with it and plays some of the games. Best present she's gotten. She also loves the large Lego-type blocks. I think Fisher Price makes sets of these in plastic bins that have a theme--like farm life.

Hey, stumbled on your blog when I was commenting on something on The Bloggess site. Had to come read you since we both seem to have a lot of hits from our moms. :) I enjoyed it and will be back!

I did buy Muno. I know, I know, he looks like two particular items, one that can go in and one that can go out (or is that just me who thinks it???), but he's really harmless.

I'll check out the laptop. He's jealous of mine, so maybe having his own to abuse will do him some good.

And please, do come back! : )
